Goodbye, My Love

My evenings are a silent desert

Since you have gone – a vanished dream
A sobbing sound of a broken string
A meteor crossing darkened sky

You went so quietly, no whispered word
Just a shallow quickened breath
Caught by a secret gust of wind
That scattered seeds of deathly hush.

I won’t sing dirges of an Irish wake
Nor murmur prayers for the dead
Take this verse written by my heart
As your companion to the stars

And when you find your Happy Isle
Send me your lovely, silent smile
Look in your eyes, a brief adieu
To make my desert come to life.
